Walking Through Prague

Prague

Christmas is the most beautiful time of the year. Christmas is coming, so I’ll write about a very beautiful place where you can spend the winter holidays. Besides the gorgeous architecture of the city, Prague also has an amazing Christmas market.

I was lucky to discover this place and I was surprised by its beauty. I think that this city is a place with so much touristic potential and it is not so popular like others capitals. For me, Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and I think that it should be on everybody’s wish list. I was in love in this city, I fell in love also with this city and every time I think about it, a smile appears on my face. This places charmed me and I feel like I was so amazed that I don’t remember so many things, but when I look at the pictures, I realize that it really happened, I was there.

I love road trips because they make the journey way more interesting.  Even though you don’t have time to stop sometimes at least you have the opportunity to see many beautiful places and to admire the surroundings. We went by car in Prague. We drove for 17 hours, but on our way back we stopped for a night because we were very tired after visiting and celebrating the new year.

It was an amazing place for Christmas and New year.

  1. First on “must see” list is the Old town square. This is a place between Wenceslas square and Charles Bridge. This area brings together the beautiful architecture and a lot of shops, bars, restaurants, pubs where you can feel the vibe of this city. If you are going in the Christmas period you’ll enjoy the Christmas market. There you can find a huge Christmas tree full of lights, a lot of interesting souvenirs, hot beer, street food and so on. You can also go for a horse ride or do many things that will put you on Christmas spirit.
  2. The Astronomical Clock is another important point of attraction. It is the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest one still operating. When the clock strikes the hour (from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 p.m.), the procession of the Twelve Apostles sets in motion.
  3. After the walk around the old town we arrive at the Charles Bridge. A miraculous bridge, where a lot of street artists are singing, dancing or selling handmade souvenirs. At the beginning the name of it was The stone Bridge but everyone knows it as Charles Bridge. The bridge is decorated by a continuous alley of 30 statues and statuaries, originally erected around 1700, but now all of them are replaced by replicas. After you cross the bridge you can go near the water and admire the swans that crown the landscape.
  4. Charles Bridge connects the town with the Castle. Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world. There are churches, monasteries, the medieval castle and the Presidential residence. The castle is among the most visited tourist attractions.
  5. The Lennon Wallor John Lennon Wall once was a normal wall in Prague. Now is filled with John Lennon-inspired graffiti and pieces of lyrics from Beatles’ songs.  In the 80’s the wall was a source of irritation for the communist regime. Near by you can find the a bar that is called John Lennon, where you can enjoy something warm and some good music.
  6. Wenceslas Square is one of the main city squares and the centre of the business and cultural communities. Many historical events occurred there.
  7. The Dancing House is an attraction point of this city. It has a different architecture compared with everything we saw in Prague. It is the modern part of this city. This building has a special story. The idea of this building appeared after the bomb attack from 1945. The house that was there, was destroyed and in 1991 it became what we see today, The dancing House.
  8. Also, in the same style as the Dancing house, you can admire Franz Kafka moving head.
  9. Besides all the activities that you can do in the old town, we chose to have fun in the mirrors museum.

Czech Republic is famous for its beer. So, if you go there, you have to enjoy a good beer. There are beer museums, hot beer on the Christmas market or any kind of beer. It is the beer paradise.

I am sure that you’ll find one  perfect for you.

Their traditional food includes a lot of meat, so If you are a vegetarian there are just a few options.

But the meat lovers told me that they enjoyed: goulash, Svickova and roasted duck. I was very happy with the lentil soup and the garlic soup.

Prague is a city where I definitely felt the Christmas spirit and I had an amazing New year’s eve in the old town where everybody is going on the bridges to watch the fireworks and then party in a bar there. Is a place where I want to go back and in another period of the year to see what is the vibe when the weather is warmer.
